Description

I'd like to see some advanced compositing support for Quassel's Qt GUI for real transparency effects in combinations of WM's and X-servers that have the support for it.

The ability to set the various text fields to one level of transparency while setting the main GUI to another, and possibly menu's to yet another would be great. Perhaps set each text field to it's own level of transparency would be even better ;)

At minimum, however, being able to set the text fields to use transparency.

The benefit of using compositing to achieve these effects rather than a background grab and apply the effect as X-Chat does it should be obvious.

Looking forward to seeing releases of Quassel,
Drew (aka LinuxDolt)

That should be possible without too many problems. Qt widgets support colors in ARGB format, i.e. with translucency, and I have seen some amazing effects recently that are possible simply by setting the colors right. There is partial theming support in Quassel, but no UI yet.

I think as soon as the needed functionality is implemented in Quassel, we'll see some nice eyecandy :)
