Description

The current blowfish implementation depends on the library qca, but it's time is limited see https://invent.kde.org/libraries/qca/-/work_items/18. There is botan-3 as an alternative and the feature could be ported away to use botan-3 directly, as attempted in https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kwallet/-/merge_requests/148.

Migrating away from QCA seems like a sensible long-term move. Reusing implementation ideas and compatibility considerations from the bitlife KWallet Botan-3 port could help reduce maintenance effort and ease the transition.
